Bramcote in WW1

The Launch of our new Publication on August 16th 2010

Remembering the People of Bramcote

How One Village was affected During World War One

Our book launch on Monday August 16th saw an audience of nearly 200 people crammed into Bramcote Memorial Hall as we recalled how this village and its people were affected by The Great War. Amongst those present were The Mayor and Mayoress of Broxtowe, Mr. Dexter Bullock of Nottinghamshire Community Foundation Grassroots Grants, representatives of several local organisations and relatives of families who had been resident in Bramcote from 1914-1918. Following a presentation given by our chairman, Val Bird, about the origins of the book and the research undertaken, as well as some glimpses into its contents, there was a rendition of “The Last Post”. A display cabinet was then unveiled in The Memorial Hall --- this is a gift from Bramcote History Group and it contains items relating to the origins of the hall. Over refreshments, those present were able to view displays and a collection of artefacts as well as purchase copies of the book. In fact all the books printed were sold on the evening so a reprint has been organised and orders are being taken!

If you would like to purchase a copy of the book (£7.99), please telephone Val Bird on 0115 9251491 to place an order.
