Bramcote Census Project

One of the aims of the History Group is to discover as much information as possible about the people who inhabited the Parish of Bramcote in bygone years.

An excellent source of information, census records from 1841 to 1901, are available for general enquiry and we felt that a comprehensive record should be made of each Census.

We aim to transcribe every Census which will then be checked against local knowledge in order to present the best and most accurate picture of Bramcote inhabitants that we can.

A team of volunteers was required to complete this project and before enlisting help a presentation on the subject of the 1901 Census, which is our starting point, was made to the membership at our meeting in September 2008.

At this meeting we introduced people to actual census information, (a fuller description of this meeting can be found in this article from our magazine The Bugle: "What is the Census") provided details of the project plan and identified potential team members.

A project team was formed and work on transcribing the 1901 records began in late 2008.

Following careful transcription and checking by other team members, the records were consolidated and passed for review against local knowledge.

A final copy of our record of the 1901 census is now available to the membership at each meeting.

Please note that the 1901 record is our best interpretation of the census pages for Bramcote.

It is a literal interpretation of the hand written census pages but we cannot be responsible for errors of interpretation.

The work is presented in good faith.
